Job Description

We are seeking to hire a Research Assistant Professor to study the Ca2+-dependent mechanisms of pacemaker activity and neurotransmission in smooth muscle tissues. The investigator must be experienced in a number of sophisticated research techniques and ethical handling of animals and human tissues. The investigator must be knowledgeable and proficient in the use of digital Ca2+ imaging techniques to follow Ca2+ transients in specific populations of cells within smooth muscle tissues. Knowledge of optical methodologies, including use of fluorescence microscopes, confocal microscopes, spinning disk confocal microscopes, programs to collect and analyze images are essential. A proven track-record of productive use of imaging equipment and theory is required for this position. The project will also utilize bioengineered transgenic mice that express genetically driven Ca2+ fluorphores . The candidate must be experienced with murine genetics and breeding techniques to obtain suitable crosses. We will also utilize fluorescence activated cell sorting and RNAseq techniques to evaluate the phenotypes of cells imaged. Experience with enzymatic isolation of cells from smooth muscle tissues and handling of cells after dispersion for molecular studies is also a basic requirement for this position. The candidate will plan experiments with the
Principal Investigator(s) supporting research projects, conduct experiments, analyze data and produce images and
