Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno invites candidates for the position of Principal Budget Officer in Planning, Budget and Analysis (PBA), a service unit of the Vice President for Administration and Finance (VPAF) division.

The Principal Budget Officer is primarily responsible for institution-wide budget processes and complex reporting and analysis in a diverse university environment.

Responsibilities Include: Budget development, preparation, upload, monitoring and forecasting. Preparation of Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) and State of Nevada budget reports and file uploads; including Operating Budget Reports and Uploads; Quarterly and Annual Budget to Actual Reports and Uploads, and Biennial Budget Request reports and Uploads. Manage Year-End Closing with University Divisions and the Controller’s Office. Prepare complex recurring and ad hoc financial, analytical and forecasting reports. Develop databases to provide automated budget reporting tools for use within PBA.

The incumbent will work in a team environment with individuals of different competencies in budget preparation and analysis. Team members work together on most projects to meet goals and deadlines. However, autonomy and independent action is required at times to work effectively across PBA.

Candidates should have a demonstrated knowledge of concepts for biennial budgeting, fund accounting, complex fiscal analysis and narrative reporting.

This is an Administrative Faculty position. Salary: $95,000 DOE. TIAA/CREF and other retirement options; 24 days of vacation annually; generous sick leave; tuition benefits for self and family; no state income tax or FICA.

Required Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution AND six years of related accounting and/or budgeting experience in a large public sector environment;

OR
a master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution AND four years of related accounting and/or budgeting experience in a large public sector environment;

OR
a doctorate degree from a regionally accredited institution AND two years of related accounting and/or budgeting experience in a large public sector. environment

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated proficiency in ERP Report Writing tools, SQL, and MS Access.

Demonstrated proficiency in data warehousing methodologies.
