Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Digital Telecommunications Specialist 1 for the Office of Information Technology, Network Operations department. The Digital Telecom Specialist 1 will be responsible for customer service for repair or replacement of the cable plant; installation, testing, troubleshooting and repair of the Fiber Optic Cable Plant; locates and marking of underground communications cables; coordination of access for and assistance to outside vendors; and assisting with maintaining, testing and the installation of campus wireless access points.

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Required Qualifications

An Associate’s degree in electronics technology or closely related field and two years of experience in data communications networks involving the fabrication, installation, maintenance, repair and modification of hardware and software; OR completion of trade school or military training to the certificate level in electronics technology which included theory of communications technology and two years of experience as described above; OR a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Knowledge or experience programing Digital and Voice Over IP phones.

2. Knowledge or experience in project management.

3. Knowledge or experience in network switches, access point or routers.

4. Knowledge or experience in troubleshooting and termination of fiber optic cabling.
