Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a full-time Development Technician 3 for the Mechanical Engineering Department. The incumbent will support hands-on laboratory education and PhD level research in the Mechanical Engineering Department. This is accomplished by working with faculty, students, and staff and carrying out projects independently. Duties include but are not limited to: fabricating instructional and requested equipment, designing and manufacturing, materials processing and characterization, equipment operation and lab safety, maintaining instructional equipment used in laboratory courses, providing training to students and teaching assistants, contributing to development of lab sessions for manufacturing courses, providing safety and machine use training to individuals, coordinating lab tours and demonstrations, and other duties as assigned.

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in electrical or mechanical engineering or related field and two years of experience in the fabrication, maintenance, calibration, repair and modification of a variety of electrical, mechanical and/or computerized equipment and computer systems; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Experience Requirements:

  • This position requires a current Hazardous Waste Operator certification or an ability to obtain the certificate within six months of appointment.
  • This position requires having a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.

  • Applicants with supervisory experience including training others in the safe use of tools and equipment are encouraged to apply.
