Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Buyer III for the Purchasing Department. The Buyer III will be responsible for formal bidding and purchase order processing (which includes verifying vendor information, determine if purchase is approved through the availability of funds while maintaining minimum lag time). These duties include: organize, draft and issue formal bids and requests for proposals for the purchase of services, goods, and equipment. Formal bids consist of detailed specifications developed through data research, web research, historical research and discussions with various customers; ensure all qualified vendors are contacted; conduct customer interaction and approval in accordance with all applicable regulations and administrative policies and procedures; negotiate, execute and maintain contracts and agreements resulting from the bid process (research findings are fully expressed in the bid, and the bid contains required terms and conditions); and maintain detailed knowledge of State of Nevada and NSHE purchasing system procedures, principles and practices including competitive bidding, determination of needs, selection of items and specification writing.

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business administration or related field and two years of professional experience in buying, specification writing or related professional purchasing responsibilities; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of purchasing experience, two years of which was at the professional level as described above; OR one year of experience as a Buyer II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Experience Requirements:
This position requires experience with Excel and Word in a business setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a higher education environment.
Experience with technology related purchases.
