Job Description

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, Lyon County is recruiting for a part-time Community Based Instructor 3 in Yerington, Nevada.

Under the supervision of the Extension Educator, the duties include: program management, teaching, logistics, planning and coordination of a grant funded youth nutrition program. The incumbent will autonomously oversee and complete program scheduling (dates/times/locations); coordinate daily activities with different school sites; conduct program marketing and registration; develop lesson plans and educational materials; teach lessons; and oversee the budget and grant reporting requirements. The position manages project hoop houses, garden projects and supervision of volunteers; and other duties associated with the youth development program.

The work schedule is a variable 26 hour work-week with occasional nights and weekends. This is subject to change based on organizational needs.

This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of relevant work experience in areas such as agriculture, horticulture, community development, health and nutrition, human and family development, and natural resources in urban and rural areas; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Experience Requirements:

- This position requires experience instructing school age youth in a community or school setting.

- This position requires experience collecting and maintaining data for reporting purposes.

- This position requires frequent travel to and from school and community sites.

- This position requires the incumbent to provide their own transportation.

- This position requires having a valid driver’s license at time of appointment.

- This position requires exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Preferred Qualifications

- Education and experience in basic nutrition education, or introductory nutrition coursework.

- State of Nevada teaching license or substitute teaching license.

- Experience managing program related budgets.
