Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Development Tech IV for the Chemistry Department. The position will be responsible for fabrication of components and apparatus used in scientific research according to each researchers specifications. The position will also be called upon to develop and design scientific apparatus for teaching and research. Further duties include: repair, modification, and maintenance of research and teaching equipment including vacuum pumps, manage funds allocated for tools and materials, purchase of materials and tools, assist in the teaching of students in the a classroom setting on the use of machine shop tools and equipment, and maintain and update the fixed asset inventory as needed.

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in electrical or mechanical engineering or related field and three years of progressively responsible experience in the fabrication, design, maintenance, calibration, repair and modification of a variety of electrical, mechanical and/or computerized equipment and computer systems; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Experience Requirements:

This position requires experience fabricating components that involve the use of a metal lathe, milling machine, and various welding techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates proficient in CNC, TIG welding, and high-vacuum technology will be given preference.
