IDEAL FOR MARKETING STUDENTS

The Marketing and Graphic Design Assistant work study student is responsible for providing direct design and marketing assistance to the Director of University Galleries. The ideal candidate is an individual open to growing his or her skills with developed graphic design skills, organizational and communication skills, and attention to detail. This individual will work under the supervision of the Director and the Exhibitions Coordinator; he or she will receive consistent coaching, but should already have an advanced comfort level with delegating limited tasks to other work study staff, narrating progress, prioritizing, and conducting business with professionalism. This staffer will act as a role model for all staff as she or he demonstrates best practices in production and release of design products for University Galleries. It is imperative that this staffer exercises an intense level of ownership and responsibility for the success of this area of gallery operations.

This position requires 8 hours of work a week. The graphic design work study student will meet with the Director for 30 minutes each week and as needed. The Director should be cc’d on all email communications made on behalf of the gallery.

Required Qualifications

Successful candidates will have a strong record of social media management, demonstrated skill in Adobe Creative Suite, and an ability to communicate effectively with the public.

Following a training period, this student staff person:

• Works directly with the gallery Director, Manager, and other gallery staff
• May correspond directly with artists, artist managers, gallerists, and estate managers
• Creates postcards, fliers, digital advertisements, social media images
• Assembles source materials for catalogue essays; may provide limited support to contracted essayists
• Uploads images to Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter regularly
• Creates title lists
• Designs wall text from object lists
• Is responsible for identifying support tasks and delegating them to a team of volunteers and work- study students; charges work study staff with sharing postcards and hanging fliers
• Attends exhibition program meetings
• Scans original artworks for digital storage
• Helps brain storm and design marketing campaigns

Students with second language skills are encouraged to apply
