Job Description

The Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a full-time lecturer in dance. The university currently supports a new major in Dance (enrolling for Fall 2017), a minor in Dance (with 55 enrolled students), and produces two annual dance concerts featuring local, national, and international guest choreographers and performers. Past guest artists include Teena Marie Custer, Kathleen Hermesdorf, Andrea Miller/Gallim Dance, casebolt & smith, Darrell Grand Moultrie/Dance Grand Moultrie, Adam Cates, Ballet Hispanico, Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago, and Lakota Sioux Dance.

This is a continuing lecturer position with an expected teaching load of four (4) classes per semester. Courses in the Dance program focus on technique, choreography, aesthetic inquiry, teaching creative movement for K-12, and Western and non-Western traditions in dance history. The successful candidate will work to ensure that undergraduates in the Dance program are knowledgeable of the diversity of cultures and cultural traditions that have interactively influenced dance and that annual dance productions serve as a vehicle for enhancing the cultural experiences of our campus community as well as the larger Northern Nevada community in which we work and live. The successful candidate will also possess a vision for the development of a growing undergraduate dance program as well as a proposed program in Musical Theatre, an interest in interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary collaboration, a commitment to collegiate engagement, and a commitment to the university’s mission of creating a more diverse and inclusive campus.

Required Qualifications

An MFA in Dance or related field.
Significant teaching experience at the college/university level preferred
The ability to teach jazz dance technique at all levels, courses in musical theatre, Dance Appreciation, and experience choreographing for musicals
Additional ability to teach in one or more of the following areas is desirable – Dance History, Choreography, Pedagogy, and/or Dance Criticism and Aesthetics

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with production and organization of undergraduate dance concerts and/or coordinating guest artist residencies is highly desirable
