Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Laboratory Technician 1 for the Nevada State Public Health Laboratory.

The Laboratory Technician 1 will be responsible for assisting Clinical Laboratory Scientists by processing and setting up microbiology samples, entering data into the Laboratory Information Management System, performing QA/QC and regulatory required tasks, making culture media, autoclaving lab waste, washing glassware, performing customer service duties and providing general laboratory support as needed. Employee will routinely work in Biosafety Level 2 and/or 3 laboratories.

Staff are expected to respond to emergency calls during scheduled and nonscheduled work hours to assist with local or State emergency requiring laboratory support.

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of laboratory experience performing various laboratory procedures; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Additional Experience Requirements:
- This position requires having a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.

- This position requires experience with Quality Assurance and Quality Control requirements.

- This position requires experience adhering to lab safety requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

- Clinical laboratory experience

- Experience working safely in BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratories
