Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a full-time, Administrative Faculty position as a Community Outreach Trainer (Child Welfare) in the School of Social Work. The Community Outreach Trainer provides development and delivery of competency-based, in-service training to public child welfare agency professionals, staff, and community stakeholders primarily in Northern Nevada. The statewide collaboration between University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), School of Social Work and the State of Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is critically important in helping Nevada’s child welfare agencies meet their workforce development needs.

Summary of Primary Job Responsibilities
• Training of new child welfare caseworkers and supervisors throughout the state on child welfare policies, practices, and safety model.
• Training of experienced child welfare caseworkers, supervisors, and community stakeholders throughout the state on child welfare related issues and topics.
• Development of new child welfare training curriculum addressing policy, practice, and child welfare related issues and topics.
• Participation in School of Social Work meetings and activities to help link child welfare training and content to the undergraduate and graduate curricula.
• Collaboration with community stakeholders.

Highly Qualified Applicants will have:
Knowledge of: Child welfare practices and policies; learning styles and evaluation of trainee capabilities; human development; Social Work practices; and curriculum, instruction, or learning methodologies.

Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation abilities; team coordination; teaching and instruction; time management; interpersonal and human relations; and proficiency with use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Ability to: Work and interact with urban and rural child welfare staff; work as a team with fellow staff members and outside agency; provide and receive feedback; maintain professional business and ethical standards; travel as needed.

Starting salary: $61,677; Salary is dependent upon experience/skill set.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and two years of relevant work experience or a Master’s Degree and one year of relevant work experience.

Relevant Experience: one year of social work practice; working with children and families in a child welfare setting; development, implementation, revision and/or evaluation of performance-based training curricula.

- Licensed as a social worker in the state of Nevada, i.e., Licensed Social Worker (LSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) or ability to obtain licensure within one year of appointment; failure to do so will result in termination of employment.

- Valid Driver’s License

- This position requires working a variable schedule and occasional travel.

Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelor or Master Degree in Social Work.

- Teaching or training experience.
