Job Description

Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) is recruiting for an Equipment Mechanic 1 for the Applied Industrial Technology department.

This position will be housed at the TMCC William N. Pennington Applied Industrial Technology Center on Edison Way. Duties will include but are not limited to maintenance and repair work on:
• Vehicle engines – breakdown and rebuild
• Brakes – replace brake shoes and pads, turn drums and rotors, rebuild master cylinder, replace brake lines
• Suspensions and steering – repair/replace power steering pumps and lines, tie rod ends, steering columns, bushings, springs, ball joints, torsion bars and shock absorbers
• Air conditioning – repair/replace hoses, recharge systems
• Automatic and manual transmissions and power trains – replace transmission fluid and filters, replace seals, repair/replace clutch assemblies
• Automotive emission controls – perform emission inspections on vehicles. Need to have current 1G inspection license or obtain within nine months of employment.
Other duties:
• Control and manage inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies: manage tool room area, controls all hand/power tools for transportation unit.
• Purchase tools, equipment and supplies; work with vendors to purchase consumables, hand tools, and large equipment.
• Work with vendors and dealerships to have parts, equipment, and vehicles donated.
• Assist faculty and students; work with faculty and students to develop safe and constructive environment during lab activities.
• Customer service, adaptability/work adjustment/communication/teamwork, and safety.

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Required Qualifications

Three years of supervised experience in an automotive/equipment repair apprenticeship program; OR three years of training as an Equipment Mechanic-In-Training in Nevada State service; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Experience Requirements:

  • This position requires frequent exposure to hazardous building materials and lifting and moving heavy objects.
  • This position requires a current 1G inspection license or an ability to obtain the license within 9 months of employment.
