Job Description

The Department of Psychology at the University of Nevada Reno invites applications for an Endowed Professorship at the Associate or Full Professor level for the James K. and Lois Merritt Mikawa Distinguished Professorship in Clinical Psychology. We seek a nationally recognized scholar with a demonstrated commitment to advancing student diversity as well as diversity within the profession of clinical psychology. This endowed professorship is also viewed as an opportunity to increase professional engagement and scholarly collaboration around issues of cultural diversity among faculty members within the department and college and across the larger university. The Endowed Professorship is for an appointment within the Clinical Psychology Graduate Program, an APA-accredited clinical science program in the Department of Psychology (http://www.unr.edu/psychology).

The integration of science and practice in service delivery and the development and dissemination of behavioral interventions for a wide variety of problems is a major interest of our faculty. Our work in this area seeks to bridge traditional health models of treatment development and practice in both our research and training emphasizing the links between efficacy and effectiveness research, prevention, access and cost, dissemination science, program evaluation, and social policy. This entails multiple levels of analysis including individuals and their environments, the healthcare systems in which interventions are delivered, as well as healthcare policy. The candidate will be an integral member of a diverse faculty with strengths in basic and/or applied studies on behavioral principles in remediation of diverse clinical problems, meta-science, integrated healthcare, behavior medicine, health behavior, gerontology, MBSR, trauma and adversity, emotion, and cultural competence. We encourage all candidates with a strong research record in clinical psychology and diversity issues to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to have a proven track record of original research, seek/obtain grant funding, mentor graduate students, supervise clinical training, and teach graduate and undergraduate courses. The orientation of the program is cognitive-behavioral with an emphasis on behaviorism. The Department also has programs in Applied Behavior Analysis and Cognitive & Brain Science. Collaboration across program areas is encouraged. The Department has state-of-the-art resources for research through the Center for Integrative Neuroscience (an NIH COBRE) providing core facilities for fMRI, high-density EEG, and fNIRS. The University of Nevada, Reno, the land grant University and major research institution in the state, has a student body of more than 21,000. The University is situated in a metropolitan area of nearly 400,000 on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Reno has four mild seasons and is a scenic half-hour drive to Lake Tahoe. It is 4-hour drive to San Francisco and the Bay area, Yosemite/Mammoth, and several CA wine districts. The Pacific Crest Trail is one of many local hiking/camping options, and top-notch ski areas abound.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, completed an APA-approved internship, evidence of history of scholarship related to theory and practice in clinical psychology with an emphasis on diversity. Applicants must also be able to provide clinical supervision and be able to obtain Nevada licensure within two years of hiring.
