Job Description

The Director, Nevada Industry Excellence (NVIE), is responsible for leadership and strategic direction of NVIE, the Industrial Extension Program of the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) and the University of Nevada, Reno and its partners. NVIE also serves as the state of Nevada’s Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology, Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NIST-MEP) Center. The primary mission of NVIE is to help Nevada’s manufacturing companies achieve their goals of enhanced productivity, increased profitability and improved global competitiveness. Most significantly, NVIE provides fee-based services for small to medium sized manufacturing in Nevada in the areas of operational excellence, growth services and workforce strategies.
The position reports to the Assistant Vice President, Enterprise and Innovation within the division of Research and Innovation (R&I).
- Project Administration
• Direct, lead and manage the NVIE Business Team in the accomplishment of the NVIE and MEP mission
• Provide oversight for statewide marketing and messaging continuity
• Substantive national and statewide travel and field work are required

- Grant and Contract Administration
• Perform other administrative and financial assignments as required
• Continue to secure current and future funding for NVIE through State appropriations and multiple grant programs, federal matching funds, project management fees, and local public and private support

- Strategic Planning
• Establish and accomplish statewide goals, objectives and quantifiable performance metrics that measure NVIE’s impact on Nevada’s manufacturers.

- Stateside Advisory Board and Stakeholder Support
• Develop and report to a statewide NVIE Advisory Board
• Maintain broad NSHE, business, and governmental support by working with a wide variety of stakeholder groups

The University of Nevada, Reno, the land-grant University and major research institution in the state, has a student body of approximately 21,000. The University is situated in Reno, a metropolitan area of 350,000, on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The city is conveniently located 38 miles from Lake Tahoe, a world-class skiing area with limitless summer and winter recreational opportunities. Sacramento and San Francisco are, respectively, two and four hour drives away.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree plus 6 years of related professional experience or
Master’s Degree plus 4 years of related professional experience.
Relevant Experience: Experience in a wide range of industrial processes and practices as well as general managerial business experience
