Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Cartographic/Graphics Technician 1 for Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology. The position will be responsible for producing high-quality maps, data, reports, posters, figures, and other products and will assist in the development/maintenance of web services, maps, and applications. The position will provide services and expertise in the areas of GIS, cartography, graphic design, publications, and web to faculty, staff, students, and clients as well as other duties as assigned.

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from high school, one year of experience performing computer-based desktop publishing and one year of experience performing graphic arts, mapping or drafting tasks; OR an Associate of Applied Science degree in computer graphics, multimedia, geography, geology or closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Applicants with the following experience are encouraged to apply: ESRI ArcGIS Desktop software and extensions; geo-database management for map production; map/data conversion processes from legacy formats to GIS formats; metadata preparation and FGDC metadata standards; web services creation using ArcGIS Server; web applications development; web programming languages; desktop publishing software; background in geology. Please list relevant experience in your application.
