Job Description

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist uses extensive knowledge to independently perform high complexity laboratory analytical procedures on blood, body fluids, and public health investigation related samples. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for the technical accuracy, instrument operation, quality control, and result reporting per established policies and procedures. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist is accountable to ensure timely and accurate results are reported to the appropriate public health staff and physicians in a courteous and professional manner. Participation in state-wide training seminars with public health partners and educational symposiums both statewide and nationally will be frequent. Some support tasks will be required to maintain laboratory operations and may include specimen collection, sample handling, specimen preparation, information system procedures, customer support, and common clerical duties. Proven track record of producing accurate results and maintaining excellence in quality in a dynamic work environment. Ability to work with self-discipline, good judgment and independence. Technical excellence and attention to quality detail.

Work Schedule: M-F 8:00a-5:00p. May require after hours work to respond to a public health emergency or a flexible work-week when participating in the weekend rotation schedule. On-Call duties may be required.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and four years of related professional experience or Master’s Degree and two years of related professional experience.

Related Experience: performing highly complex laboratory testing of human samples and clinical regulatory lab requirements; chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology.

State of Nevada laboratory personnel certification as either a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or General Supervisor; or, the ability to obtain such certification within three months of hire

- A valid Nevada driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

1. Clinical Microbiology Experience
2. Clinical Molecular Biology Experience
3. Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) as a Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Specialist, Clinical Laboratory Technologist/Scientist or equivalent.
