Job Description

Western Nevada College is recruiting for a part-time (48% FTE) Security Officer in the Public Safety Department. All part-time assignments can be assigned to any of our campus locations; Carson City, High Tech Center, Fallon or Douglas Campus. This position will patrol the campus by foot or vehicle to identify any security or safety issues and respond accordingly. The incumbent will be responsible for enforcing all laws and regulations, maintaining security of buildings, enforcing parking and traffic regulation, assisting the public as needed, and other duties as assigned. Additionally, the incumbent will maintain accurate records and logs of all incidents and inventory on campus, maintain certification standards for all tools and equipment used, and maintain certification in first aid, CPR and weaponless defense tactics.

The typical work schedule is varied requiring working days, evenings, weekends, and holidays; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Carson/Tahoe Area: Located just a 4 hour drive from San Francisco, the Carson/Tahoe area is one of the country’s outdoor meccas. Within less than an hour and a half drive you will find several famous winter sports resorts (such as Squaw Valley, the host of the 1960 Winter Olympic Games) and hundreds of mountain biking and hiking trails (including the 165-mile Tahoe Rim Trail) for your enjoyment during the winter and summer months. The region offers an array of festivals and cultural activities including museums and performing arts centers. Additionally, the area attracts world class entertainers.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience in public contact work which included applying and implementing rules, regulations or established policies.

Additional Experience Requirements:

• This position requires having a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.

CPR certification is required within the first 90 days of employment and as a condition of continuing employment.

• First Aid certification is required within the first 90 days of employment and as a condition of continuing employment.

• This position requires extended periods of walking or standing and exposure to inclement weather.

• Candidate will be required to complete safety training in bicycle patrol and utilize provided bicycle.
